Skier

As April approaches, most of us are probably hoping for some warmer weather. But if you haven’t managed to make it skiing yet this winter, there’s still time to book yourself a holiday. In fact, this part of the season is many people’s preferred time to ski, but why?

Here are six reasons why you shouldn’t be put off going skiing late in the season.

1. The Weather’s Better

No white-outs. No frostbite. No blizzards that keep you inside. Ok, so there are no guarantees that it’ll be blue skies every day. But the chances are, at this time of the year, you’ll be wanting to spend more of the day outside, and you’ll be comfortable skiing for longer. And at the end of the day, there’s nothing like sitting in a deck chair with a hot chocolate and soaking up the sun.

2. The Resorts are Often Quieter

Go skiing at February half term, and you might find yourself stuck standing in a queue for the lift. But less people know about the benefits of skiing later on in the season, so the resorts are often a little more peaceful. Get the opportunity to leave the very first tracks of the day, or stay until you really are the last person on the mountain.

3. The Snow is Just as Good

If you make it to one of the higher altitude resorts, like Obertauen, or one of the most snow-sure ones, like Neustift, you’ll get fantastic snow, even right at the end of the season. Munich flights will put you in easy reach of many of the best late season resorts.

4. The Holidays are Cheaper

Even just waiting one week after peak season can result in a dramatic drop in price for many of the ski hotels. Ski rentals are cheaper, and often so are flights, so you’ll have more money to spend on enjoying yourself once you get there.

5. You’ll Have More Time for Other Activities

The amount of daylight changes dramatically between the height of winter and the spring ski season. Those extra few hours a day give you the opportunity to make use of all the other facilities a ski resort has to offer. Why not go ice-skating on the local lake, or tubing at the resort’s toboggan track?

6. The Parties are Bigger and Better

When night temperatures aren’t so painfully low, the locals and holiday-makers really get the party going. Ski resorts aren’t just about what happens on the mountain – in fact, many people go skiing just for the legendary après-ski. If you’re flying to Munich, you’re just a short distance from what is often hailed as the best resort for skiing social life. St. Anton in Austria is famous for its parties, and if you visit in the next few weeks, you’ll find out why.
